5 Reasons to Attend the Trade with Africa Business Summit

August 7th & 8th, 2020, business leaders, trade experts, investors and policy makers will convene for the first ever virtual edition of the Trade with Africa Business Summit; a vibrant trade and economic discussion hub. I invite you to join us at the 3rd edition set with the theme: Trade and Investment Opportunities in Agriculture, Manufacturing, Retail and Infrastructure Development in Africa. Here are 5 reasons why you do not want to miss this incredible event:

  1. Trade not Aid: Over the past 20 – 30 years, Africa's policy leaders have built and strengthened political relationships around the world, which has led to an overall increase in Foreign Aid toward the continent. However, in recent times the conversation has rightly shifted from capturing Aid to Trade but the accompanying strategy must also shift. The biggest gap is that Africa's leaders must establish stronger partnerships with the global business community to truly capture trade. For example, in the U.S., trade opportunities abound outside of Washington, D.C. since corporate America is stronger in trade opportunities while Washington remains the political epicenter.
  2. Content: There is Data and there is Actionable Data. Our agenda for this year’s event is structured to ignite deep trade conversation to facilitate engagement in the context of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and other business relevant topics. We know that Africa offers new export markets for U.S. and globally manufactured products. Similarly, U.S. serves as an untapped market for authentic African products—raw and manufactured. For leaders interested in export and import, sustainable agriculture, supply chain, retail, technology innovation, women’s empowerment, healthcare and education, this summit offers unique opportunities to capture ideas that can be replicated to fast track trade with the region. U.S. for example still engages at less than 2% of total global trade with Sub-Saharan Africa and there is room to grow these numbers.
  3. Virtual Networking: Our virtual Trade Platform, where this year’s event will be held, offers unique connection opportunities for those seeking strategic partnerships with trade stakeholders. Africa is home to 1.1 billion people and by 2050, the population is projected to double and become one of the world’s largest productive youth workforce. Africa has 60% of the world's uncultivated land mass and with manufacturing steadily shifting to Africa, the timing is right for business leaders to develop effective strategies towards the region. This event provides a front row sit to leaders looking to learn and engage.
  4. Speakers: Our speakers have been selected for their unique wealth of experience and knowledge in strategic areas of our Trade with Africa ® Framework. This year we have also created more time for extensive Q & A sessions to facilitate business critical discussions on best practices for investing and trading with Africa.
  5. Exposure Opportunities: As Africa’s policy makers and business leaders race to strengthen economic ties with regions around the world, those who listen to their aspirations and strategically position their products and services as enablers of economic development would reap commercial benefits. This event and platform serve as a gateway to secure exposure for your business. Africa's business leaders are also looking to expand their reach to develop mutually beneficial trade opportunities.

The Trade with Africa® Framework, depicted below, will be presented in detail during the 2020 Trade with Africa Business Summit. After years of working and engaging with critical trade stakeholders, we created this framework to guide future trade and investment facilitation efforts.
